World Oceans Day Event: 6 June 2024 18h00 BST
In partnership with the Blue Marine Foundation, the Commonwealth Secretariat is highlighting the relationship between women and the ocean. The evening will feature a fireside chat between voices representing the arts, communication, science, and policymakers – all of whom have made groundbreaking contributions to marine life across the Commonwealth.
The event aims to showcase women who have fearlessly paved their way in what has been historically a male-dominated field. Their inspiring stories will highlight the vast career possibilities that are associated with ocean-related careers, regardless of gender. The event seeks to raise awareness about the imperative of gender equality in ocean-related professions and remind us that diversity is not only desirable but necessary for the holistic and sustainable stewardship of our ocean. Simultaneously, it will acknowledge the extraordinary achievements of women and their role in shaping the future of ocean conservation and exploration.
