Hon. Dr. Mahoi Advocates for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Sierra Leone

Hon. Dr. Isata Mahoi, Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, took a significant step forward in championing women's economic empowerment at the Commonwealth Women’s Network (CWN) Conference. This pivotal event held between 20 - 22 May was held in partnership with the Commonwealth Businesswomen's Network (CBWN) and the Government of Sierra Leone at the Family Kingdom in Aberdeen. The conference focused on the crucial themes of entrepreneurship, technology, and economic empowerment for women across Commonwealth nations.

In her inspiring opening remarks, Dr. Mahoi expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, highlighting the event as a testament to the strong commitment towards gender inclusivity. "This conference underscores the necessity for collaboration and dedication to achieve gender equality and women's empowerment," she remarked.

Dr. Mahoi emphasized the government’s steadfast dedication to gender equality, detailing several critical policies and legislative measures aimed at empowering women. These initiatives include the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy 2020, the GEWE Act 2022, the PPRC Act 2022, the Customary Land Rights Act 2022, and the Employment Act 2023. "These legislative measures are instrumental in paving the way for gender equality and women's empowerment," she affirmed, calling for continued collective efforts to ensure women can thrive in all aspects of society.
