Sabah Declaration on Climate Justice
The Sabah Declaration on Climate Justice
The Commonwealth Lawyers Association co-hosted the Borneo Rainforest Law Conference on 28 February 2024 at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu. As a legacy of this three-day event, the Sabah Declaration on Climate Justice was adopted.
With contributions from lawyers, private and public institutions, academics and civil societies, the CLA adopted the declaration to emphasise that respect for the rule of law is one of the keystones on which to realise climate solutions and achieve climate justice.
Fiona Ey and Hasan Irfan Khan, the co-convenors of the CLA Climate Justice Committee said: "This is an important Declaration affirming the CLA's commitment to the SDGs and Commonwealth Charter. Transformative climate solutions and change are underpinned by human rights, good governance and the rule of law. The Sabah Declaration on Climate Justice re-emphasises our collective commitment at a time that we know is critical for our planet, our lives and our future."
